RESEARCH AT WELDING INSTITUTE IN LJUBLJANA
Welding institute in Ljubljana is leading national research organization dealing with research and development projects for industry in welding.
In our research team
we have 6 full time employed doctors and 10 engineers with Slovenian research registration.
Main research directions
Main research directions are:
- new educational methods,
- basic research of welding methods especially MIG and RSW nad FSW,
- resistance welding process and adaptive control research,
- development of over 200 welding procedures/year,
- we have over 500 dissemination activities every year,
- weldability,
- metallographic and non-destructive testing.
Major research equipment:
- Modern by manufacturers always up to dated equipment for welding processes: TIG, MIG, MAG, EA, flame, plasma and ultrasonic welding, inductive welding, surfacing and processing areas, metallization, application of ceramics (Fronius, ESAB, Varstroj, Kemppi, Gys, OTC, Iskra , ...).
- Laboratory for resistance welding with the adaptive controlled devices (including ultrasound): Bosch Rexroth, Matuschek, Schiacky, Soyer, ...
- Laboratory of Automatic welding; Varstroj, Bosch, ....
- Metallographic laboratory with material preparation line Struers, Niton and Spectro XRF and Zeiss digitized microscopy.
- Measuring toughness, micro-and macro hardness Zwick, hardness (Vickers, Brinell and Rockwell) (Zwick).
- Universal Tensile testing laboratory up to 400 kN (3 x Zwick).
- Laboratories for the computer-controlled measurement of pressure, flow, leak, forces, torque, temperature, humidity, noise, vibration, dimensions, strength, voltage, current, flash strength, ...
- NDT laboratory with 12 X-ray (film and digitized images), several ultrasonic, PT, MT, UTT, LT equipment’s from Balteau, Andrex, Krautkramer, …

European harmonized system for education of adhesive bonding personnel.
Eureka AHEAD
Development of advanced Carbon materials by using high energy electric arc and development of a new process for depositing advanced materials, by using evaporation caused by electric arc.

Slovenian Program group for welding
Joined research about advanced welding tasks together with 6 laboratories from University of Ljubljana Faculty for mechanical engineering.

New advanced system for postgraduate specialization for welding engineers.
