Training for welding and non-destructive testing (NDT)

The Welding Institute provides education and training for welding and NDT personnel: the international specialisations IWE, IWT and IWS, welder training, NDT courses to EN ISO 9712 and dedicated training. Programmes take place in Ljubljana and Maribor or by distance learning.

International welding specialisations

IWE, IWT and IWS in English. International diplomas for welding coordinators.

Welder training

MIG, MAG, TIG, manual metal arc and plastics welding. A new course starts on the first Monday of every month.

NDT courses

VT, PT, MT, UT, UTT and RT. Training and exam for a VARcert certificate to EN ISO 9712.

Distance learning

The theoretical part of the IWE, IWT and IWS specialisations and other programmes through interactive materials.

Preparation for certification exams

Preparation for CIWE certification and NDT for pressure equipment.

Why train with the Welding Institute?

  • We are the only welding school in Slovenia approved by the national ANB (Slovenian Welding Society, SDVT).
  • According to the Institute, Slovenia has the most graduated welding coordinators in Europe relative to its population.
  • We were the first in the region to offer distance learning for the theoretical education of welding coordinators, welders and NDT personnel.
  • We have been running welding specialisations in south-east Europe since 1952.
  • More than 40 experts from industry and three Slovenian universities take part in the lectures.
  • Specialisations follow the guidelines and authorisations of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and the European Welding Federation (EWF).
  • We have been training NDT personnel since 2005 under the certification body VARcert, to EN ISO 9712 and SNT-TC-1A.
  • Practical work takes place in our own welding shops and laboratories in Ljubljana and Maribor.

What programmes does the Welding Institute offer?

International specialisations for welding coordinators (IWE, IWT, IWS), welder training, NDT courses and exams to EN ISO 9712, seminars and dedicated training for companies.

Where does the training take place?

In the welding shops and laboratories in Ljubljana (Ptujska ulica 19) and Maribor (Zagrebška cesta 90). The theoretical part of some programmes is delivered by distance learning. Exam preparation can also take place on the client’s premises.

Who issues the diploma or certificate?

IWE, IWT and IWS diplomas are issued by the Slovenian Welding Society (SDVT) on behalf of the IIW. Certificates for NDT personnel and welders are issued by the certification body VARcert.

Can I apply online?

Yes. Use the online form Course and exam application. Applying is free of charge and does not mean payment.

Do you offer training tailored to a company?

Yes. We run dedicated education and training in welding, including welding specific products on specific materials. Send an enquiry.

Are the programmes available in English?

The IWE, IWT and IWS specialisations are available in English as a separate programme. NDT training can be organised in English by arrangement.
