Who needs plastics welding?
Plastics welding is used on gas pipelines, water supply, municipal landfills and chemical containers. Under SIST EN 13067 the competence of welders of thermoplastics is tested.
What does the course programme cover?
- basics of plastics (production, properties, weldability, recycling)
- possible methods of welding thermoplastics
- quality assurance in plastics welding
- pipe welding with a heated tool
- pipe welding with an electrofusion coupler
- extrusion welding
- manual welding with a heated tool
- automatic welding of PE foils with a heated tool
- ultrasonic welding and hot air welding
How does certification after the course work?
After completing the course, candidates go through certification. The theoretical part of the exam is compulsory; at least 80% is required in the theoretical part and all test samples in the practical part must be assessed as acceptable. The test samples are examined by the Institute’s accredited laboratories. If you fail, you can repeat the exam once within three months.
The certification scheme (PDF, in Slovenian) also sets the conditions for applying: completed apprenticeship in plastics fabrication, at least two years of documented experience in welding plastics, or completed training that prepares for the qualification exam.
