IWT: International Welding Technologist

IWT (International Welding Technologist) is the international qualification for welding coordinators with an upper-secondary technical or scientific education. The programme is delivered in English, mostly by distance learning with practical exercises in Ljubljana and Maribor. It costs EUR 5,800 without VAT and ends with an international IIW diploma.

Who needs the IWT?

The IWT is for people who take part in welding work and want to deepen their knowledge: technologists, inspection and welding supervision staff, production planners and quality managers. Companies that want to obtain and maintain a welding certificate under ISO 3834, ISO 14731 and EN 1090 meet the qualification requirements for welding coordinators with it.

What are the entry requirements for the IWT?

  • A recognised upper-secondary technical or scientific education (at least ISCED level 3) in science, technology or mathematics, normally including mathematics, physics and chemistry.
  • Candidates with a different educational background may also be eligible if they have sufficient relevant experience in metalworking or welding.

Final eligibility is confirmed by ANB Slovenia after reviewing your certificates and, where applicable, evidence of professional experience.

How is the IWT programme delivered?

The theoretical part is delivered by distance learning through interactive materials with videos and quizzes, supported by tutors. Practical exercises take place in the welding shops and laboratories of the Institute. The programme has four modules with exams; the scope by module is on the page IWE, IWT, IWS by distance learning.

How much does the IWT cost?

The price per candidate is EUR 5,800 without VAT for the programme delivered in English. It includes the costs of distance learning, materials, exams and IWT certification. Payment in several instalments is possible.

What do I receive on completion?

After successfully completing the programme and passing the exams you receive an international IIW diploma, issued by the Slovenian Welding Society (SDVT) on behalf of the International Institute of Welding (IIW). The diploma is in English, valid worldwide and equivalent to those issued in other countries. On completing all obligations you gain the title International Welding Technologist (IWT).
