Certification of welding coordination personnel is carried out in accordance with the IIW Personnel Certification Scheme and the requirements of document IAB-341.

Certification represents an assessment of the applicant’s current professional competence and is based on the relevant IIW/EWF qualification, appropriate professional experience, the scope of welding-related tasks and responsibilities, and evidence of maintaining and updating professional knowledge.

Upon successful completion of the certification process, the applicant is awarded the relevant certificate CIWE – Certified International Welding Engineer, CIWT – Certified International Welding Technologist or CIWS – Certified International Welding Specialist. Certificates are issued in English and are internationally recognised within the IIW system.

REQUIREMENTS

The applicant shall hold the appropriate IIW or EWF diploma, corresponding to the requested level of certification:

• IWE/EWE → CIWE
• IWT/EWT → CIWT
• IWS/EWS → CIWS

The applicant shall demonstrate a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience during the three-year period prior to application, at a level appropriate to the certification sought.

The applicant shall also provide evidence of the scope of his/her welding-related activities, tasks and responsibilities in accordance with ISO 14731, as well as evidence demonstrating how his/her professional knowledge is maintained and kept up to date.

For this purpose, the applicant shall submit the completed application documentation, the relevant IIW/EWF diploma, and information and supporting evidence relating to professional welding activities carried out during the previous three years.

PROCEDURE

ANB Slovenia reviews the application and submitted supporting documentation and assesses whether the applicant fulfils the requirements for certification and determines the appropriate scope of certification.

If, during the review of the application, it is considered necessary to confirm the applicant’s current professional knowledge or to supplement such knowledge, ANB Slovenia may require additional professional assessment.

The additional assessment may be carried out in the form of a 10-hour online refresher course covering important developments in welding technology, followed by an online written examination.

The refresher course may cover the following areas: review of requirements and technical review, materials, production planning, subcontracting, production equipment, welding processes, inspection and testing, weld acceptance criteria, documentation, and current regulations and standards.

Where such additional assessment is required, after completing the course material the applicant shall take an online written examination consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions (A, B, C, D). The duration of the examination is 40 minutes. Incorrect answers do not result in negative marking. A minimum score of 70% is required for a successful result.

In cases of doubt concerning an initial certification or recertification application, ANB Slovenia may also require the applicant to undergo a professional interview.

Following completion of the assessment process, the final decision on granting certification is made by the appointed decision-making personnel.

VALIDITY OF THE CERTIFICATE

The certificate is valid for three years from the date of the certification decision.

At the end of the three-year validity period, the certificate holder shall apply for recertification and provide evidence of relevant professional activities and maintenance of up-to-date welding knowledge during the previous three years.

CERTIFICATION FEE

The certification fee is EUR 350.00 + VAT.

The IIW Personnel Certification Scheme provides a means of assessing and recognising the current professional competence of personnel with welding-related responsibilities. It takes into account professional qualification, knowledge, experience, scope of responsibilities and continuous professional development.

Certification supports companies in demonstrating the competence of personnel carrying out welding coordination tasks in accordance with ISO 14731, and in ensuring the quality of welding activities in connection with the requirements of ISO 3834.
