Certification of ndt personnel
Certification is the process of determining compliance, that an individual is qualified to perform certain work, which is confirmed with a certificate. In the EU, we carry out the qualification and certification of personnel in accordance with the EN ISO 9712 standard. The certification is carried out by an independent certification body that is accredited by an authorized accreditation institution, which is under the supervision of the umbrella European accreditation institution - EA. VARcert is the authorized body of the Institute of Welding for the certification of personnel that performs non-destructive tests.
Certification is very important for the NDT field, as NDT personnel very often have to accept assessments about the (un)usability of products or structures, which may have safety and/or financial consequences. Since most NDT methods do not provide a direct record of inspection results, certification provides objective evidence of the level of knowledge and skill of the individual performing the non-destructive testing.
In order to be eligible to begin the certification process, a candidate must meet the following conditions:

In order to be eligible to begin the certification process, a candidate must meet the following conditions:
- must have sufficient industry experience for the NDT method and sector for which certification is sought,
- must have documented evidence of satisfactory vision (near vision and color recognition),
- must undergo training for the relevant method and sector in a recognized institution,
- must successfully complete elements of the qualifying exams.
We perform certification for the following NDT methods and submethods:
- Visual testing (VT),
- Liquid penetrant testing (PT),
- Magnetic particle testing (MT),
- Ultrasonic testing (UT),
- Ultrasonic thickness measurements (UTT),
- Radiografic testing (RT),
- Grading of radiographic films (RT.FAS),
The institute carries out certification for all product sectors, industrial sectors and three levels, as well as for the field of pressure equipment in accordance with Directive 2014/68/EU – PED. Exams are conducted in our own premises in Ljubljana or Maribor, and exceptionally also at clients' premises. Training can be carried out on our equipment or the customer's equipment.
NEW: Vision examination for NDT personnel can also be done at Institut za varilstvo. Prior order is required to mojca.radman@i-var.si (Ljubljana) or branko.kralj@i-var.si (Maribor).

From 1/1/2022, retake exams are payable, namely they are charged according to the following price list: general exam 50 EUR, specific exam 50 EUR, PED exam 30 EUR, written instruction 100 EUR and practical exam 150 EUR.
For training and/or exam purposes, candidates can borrow UT equipment from us. The price is 150 EUR/day.
