The VIRTWELD consortium is made up of three ANBs from the EWF network, IZV (SI), CWS (CZ) EWF (PT) and VUZ (SK) as project coordinator. The action began in November 2009 and will last for two years, until October 2011.
The main objective will be to promote the use of virtual welding stations at institutions providing welding education. Use of these virtual welding systems is expected to contribute to making the training of welders cheaper, while also ensuring safer and cleaner learning conditions.
The main beneficiaries of the project will be the welding communities of Slovenia, Slovakia and Czech Republic, where the respective welding institutes are best suited to make available the devices to the national welding communities, through specific training workshops.
VIRTWELD will be a major opportunity to assess the real impact and potential benefits of using virtual welding stations in the different welding courses of the partner countries, namely in terms of the cost reductions and healthier environment that use of these systems may provide, as well as the quality level of welders trained in this fashion.
Significant outcomes include:
Promoting the use of virtual welding devices to welders, teachers and students;
To improve overall training conditions for welders, through clean and high-tech alternatives;
To generate positive momentum on the attractiveness of welding practical training programes in the target countries;
